There is an opioid epidemic killing thousands across our nation. “The Illinois Department of Public Health reports that 11,000 people have died from overdoses since 2008.” Illinois Governor, Bruce Rauner, responded to this epidemic on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 by passing a bill allowing doctors to prescribe medicinal marijuana as an alternative pain reliever. “…The plan reforms pain treatment and provides more options to patients.” The law recognizes the opioid epidemic but also acknowledges the possibility for abuse of marijuana.
