Illinois Governor, Bruce Rauner, signed a law allowing courts to confiscate a persons guns who is a threat to themselves or others. This law allows police and family members to testify in court regarding the mental health of individuals, preventing them from obtaining and using their firearms. Weapons can be confiscated for up to six months. The purpose of this law is to prevent catastrophic events such as the shooting in Parkland, Florida in which “people declared there were warning signs that were not heeded.”
