‘Affluenza’ Teen Released From Jail

In 2013, 16-year old Ethan Couch was found guilty of intoxication manslaughter for the death of 4 individuals and sentenced to 10 years probation. However, in 2015 Couch and his mother fled the United States to Mexico due to Couch’s violation of his drug-and-drink free probation. He was later sentenced to 720 days in jail and has been recently released. Many believe Ethan Couch escaped a harsher punishment due to his family’s affluence, thus nick-naming him the ‘affluenza’ teenager.
